We refer to the query dated 1 March 2000 regarding the article appearing in the Business Times on 1 March 2000, wherein it was stated as follows :-

"Telekom Malaysia Berhad is considering buying the country's largest mobile phone company, Celcom Malaysia Sdn Bhd, an industry executive said yesterday."

"Telekom is currently carrying out a due diligence on Celcom which should be finalised very soon, the executive said."

We wish to inform the Exchange that the above statements which were reported by the Business Times as quoted by an industry executive, were merely personal views and speculations of the said executive.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is currently not involved in any discussions, negotiations or due diligence exercise with the objective of acquiring any company. In the circumstances, TM is unable to make an announcement as requested by the Exchange.

We refer to the above article appearing in The Business Times, page 5 on
Wednesday, 1 March 2000, a copy of which is enclosed for your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined
sentences, which are reproduced as follows:-
"TELEKOM Malaysia Bhd is considering buying the country's largest mobile phone
company, Celcom Malaysia Sdn Bhd, an industry executive said yesterday".
"'Telekom is currently carrying out a due diligence on Celcom which should be
finalised very soon', the executive said"

In accordance with the Exchange's Corporate Disclosure Policy, you are

confirming or denying the above reported sentences after due and diligent
enquiry with all the directors, substantial shareholders and all such other
persons reasonably familiar with the matters about which the disclosure is to

you are required to set forth facts sufficient to clarify any misleading
aspects of the same. In the event you confirm the above reported sentences, you
are required to set forth facts sufficient to support the same.
