We refer to the query dated 8 May 2000 regarding the article appearing in the Star, Business Section, page 3, on Monday 8 May 2000 wherein it was stated as follows :-

"... Khazanah Malaysia has sealed the deal with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) of Japan to sell 20% in Telekom."

"Talk of Telekom proposing to buy Celcom Sdn Bhd has resurfaced once again and it is said to be a condition in the NTT deal for Telekom to strengthen its cellular business."

We wish to inform the Exchange that further to our announcement on 24 November 1999, regarding the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Khazanah Nasional Berhad ("Khazanah") and NTT Communications Corporation and NTT Mobile Communications Network, we understand that Khazanah is currently considering the proposal by NTT to acquire shares in Telekom Malaysia Berhad ("TM").

We wish to also inform the Exchange that TM is currently not involved in any discussions or negotiations regarding the acquisition of Celcom Sdn Bhd.

page 3, on Monday, 8 May 2000, a copy of which is enclosed for your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined
sentences, which are reproduced as follows:-
