We wish to inform the Exchange that the following sentences which appeared on page 3 of the Star, Business Section, on Thursday, 13 July 2000 were based on market rumours and not a statement made by the Company or Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) :-
"The long awaited strategic tie-up between Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT) and Telekom Malaysia Bhd may well not materialise ..."
"NTT was said to be interested in purchasing a 10% to 15% stake in Telekom from Khazanah Nasional Bhd ...it was apparently even interested in acquiring up to 35%."
We wish to inform the Exchange that Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has not been informed on the final status of the negotiation between NTT and Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) regarding the possible investment by NTT in TM.
We shall make an announcement to the Exchange as soon as we obtain confirmation from Khazanah on the outcome of their negotiation with NTT.
We refer to the above news article appearing in The Star, Business Section,
page 3, on Thursday, 13 July 2000, a copy of which is enclosed for your
reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined
sentences which are reproduced as follows:-
