Pursuant to paragraph 9.04 (d) of the Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad's Listing Requirements, we are pleased to enclose herewith a press release made by Telekom Malaysia Berhad on even date for the Exchange's information.

    • Dato' Baharum Salleh holds a degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Bath, England, and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Leicester, England.

      Dato’ Baharum has been in the telecommunications industry for more than 25 years. He started his career in operations management at TM state office of Malacca in 1978. He was involved in project management and later in marketing before being appointed as TM’s State Manager for Negeri Sembilan in 1992. Later in 1997 he was appointed as General Manager of Corporate Strategy where he was responsible for the corporate business direction and strategy development of TM.

      Dato' Baharum Salleh was subsequently appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of TM Multimedia in 2001 and became its Chief Executive Officer when the strategic business unit was corporatized as TM Net Sdn Bhd in 2002.
      An Electrical Engineer by training with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Michael’s career spans across mobile telecommunications, information technology, internet, financial services and manufacturing. Michael has served in various capacities both at home and abroad over the past 18 years.
      Prior to joining Celcom in 2002, Michael was the Marketing Director, Oracle Corporation Malaysia where he helped build Oracle Malaysia into an IT and software power brand, and a profitable and winning enterprise marketing organization.
      At Celcom, Michael is responsible for all aspects of its branding, marketing communications and market development contributing towards Celcom sales & marketing objectives and its business and financial goals.
      Michael is recognised as one the few branding and marketing professionals in the country today who has the exposure, experience and expertise in both global & domestic business-to-business and business-to-consumer ICT branding and marketing. His exposure and experience will prove to be beneficial in helming Malaysia’s leading ISP especially in the area of contents and applications.
    • A Chartered Accountant by profession and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and also Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Yusof has had both investment banking and corporate management experience throughout his career. His investment banking career included stints at S.G. Warburg & Co (now known as UBS), ING Barings Securities and the Merrill Lynch & Co affiliate in Malaysia. Prior to his appointment, he was an Executive Director at OCB Berhad and was a Board member of a number of other public listed companies.
      Gazali, 47, joined TM in 1990 as an executive in Corporate Finance. In June 2000 he became the General Manager of Corporate Finance and subsequently in October 2002 was promoted to Vice President, before assuming his current position as Vice President Finance of TM Wholesale. For the period October 2001 until June 2003, he was also Acting Chief Financial Officer of TM.
      His experience in TM includes treasury management, fund raising activities, investor relations and overseeing the Enterprise Risk Management Program for the Group. He was directly involved in some of the major acquisitions of the company such as the acquisition of a strategic stake in Telkom South Africa and the acquisition by TM of 100% equity interest in Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad, which resulted in TM becoming the leading cellular operator in Malaysia. He was also instrumental in the negotiations which led to the settlement of the dispute between TM and the Government of Ghana over TM’s investment in Ghana.
      Prior to joining TM, he was attached to a local merchant bank for five years. His exposure in the bank includes corporate banking and corporate finance.
      He holds a Bachelor of Science (Finance) from Northern Illinois University in 1982 and obtained an MBA from Governors State University. He also obtained a Diploma in Accountancy from University Technology MARA (UiTM) in 1979.
      Dennis graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) in Computer Science from the Imperial College, University of London, United Kingdom in 1984. He started his career in 1985 with Malaysian Airlines Systems Berhad (MAS). He left MAS in 1990 to join Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautiques (SITA) in Paris as a Project Manager before later joining VADS in 1992 under similar posting. Dennis was subsequently promoted to Senior Manager of Technical Support and Operations of VADS in 1994. The following year, he was made General Manager of VADS and was responsible for the management and operations of the National and International units of the Managed Network Services (MNS) Division. Dennis was later made Senior General Manager in 1997.
      Dennis was appointed as an Executive Director of VADS on 5 January 2004 and currently sits on the board of two subsidiaries of VADS.
      A graduate of Economics and Statistics from the University of Exeter, England and a chartered accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) as well as a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, he brings with him 12 years of experience in the field of finance and accountancy.

      Prior to joining Celcom, he served Arthur Andersen, that later merged with Ernst and Young, as an executive and later as a senior manager in the Assurance and Advisory Business Services Division. At Andersen he was primarily responsible for dealing with major companies with diversified businesses ranging from local to international exposure as well as managing the technology, media and communication group for the Andersen practice in Kuala Lumpur.
      Mohamed Adlan joined Celcom in 2003 as the Vice President of Financial Accounting. At Celcom, he was part of the integration exercise team where he was responsible for streamlining the accounting policies and processes for the Group. He also implemented successful cost control measures.
      Zubir holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri, U.S.A and a Masters degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
      He began his career with Harris Advanced Technology in 1984 where he spent 11 years specializing in engineering within a manufacturing environment. He joined Celcom in 1995 as Vice President/Head of Quality Assurance Department. Since then, he has served Celcom in various capacities overseeing strategic functions such as quality management, mobile services, group corporate strategy & product development, international business & ventures and sales & marketing. He was responsible for establishing the new Quality Assurance Department that propelled the organization’s focus on Total Quality Management. He was appointed as the Head of Mobile Services in 1997 before promoted as a Senior Vice President in 1998.
      His contribution to Celcom further expanded in 2001 when he was appointed as the SVP/Head of Group Corporate Strategy & Product Development. Following that, he was the Head of Group International Business & Ventures where he supervised the then three international venture companies and three local JVs. En. Zubir was then appointed as the Senior Vice President/Head of Customer Management Group & Mobile Data in 2003. He was responsible in the management of sales & marketing, regional business operations and mobile data.
  • Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today announced seven (7) more new appointments of key positions within the Group. This is in addition to the announcement of 4 key positions made on 28 April 2005 following the re-organization and re-alignment of divisions and functions at TM’s Corporate Centre and subsidiaries.

    This is again part of its ongoing change efforts that are being implemented to streamline and improve the Group’s overall performance, and gear up to face challenges both on the domestic and international fronts.

    The appointments of key positions are as follows:

    Effective from 1 June 2005:

    1) Dato’ Baharum Salleh has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer, TM Wholesale. Dato’ Baharum, 50, who is currently the CEO of TM Net Sdn Bhd, TM’s internet service provider and multimedia company, will take over the position from Dato’ Dr.Idris Ibrahim who has opted for early retirement. TM Wholesale is TM’s Strategic Business Unit (SBU) that focuses on providing network infrastructure, crucial for the future success of the Group. TM Wholesale owns and manages amongst others all fixed network investments valued at RM11 billion. His wealth of experience in growing TM Net, will be of immense help to realise the potential synergies that exist within the Group’s network infrastructure and to optimise service delivery.
    2) Mr. Michael Lai, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of TM Net Sdn Bhd. Michael, 43, who is currently the Senior Vice President of Branding and Market Development of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad will succeed Dato’ Baharum Salleh who is taking up the position of Chief Operating Officer of TM Wholesale as mentioned above.
    3) Encik Yusof Annuar bin Yaacob, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of TM International Sdn. Bhd., TM’s international investment arm. Yusof Annuar, 39, who currently sits on the Board of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad as an Independent Non-Executive Director, will take up the position that was left vacant by Christian de Faria, the former Chief Executive Officer of TMI, who was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of PT Excelcomindo last month. 4) Encik Gazali Harun has been appointed as Chief Procurement Officer, TM. He is currently the Vice President, Finance of TM Wholesale since July 2004. His primary responsibility includes overseeing the financial management of the business division which manages the entire fixed line infrastructure of TM.
    5) Mr. Dennis Koh Seng Huat, has been appointed as the CEO of VADS Berhad, TM ‘s subsidiary providing managed network services. Dennis, 43, is currently the Executive Director and Acting CEO of VADS.
    6) Encik Mohamed Adlan Ahmad Tajudin, has been appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad. Mohamed Adlan, 35, who is currently the Deputy Chief Financial Officer of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad will be taking up the CFO position left vacant by Bazlan Osman who is now the Group CFO of TM.

    Effective 1 April 2005:

    Encik Zubir A. Rasid has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad, TM’s mobile arm, effective April 2005. Zubir, 43, was the Senior Vice President/Head of Customer Management Group & Mobile Data of Celcom prior to this appointment.
