We wish to inform the Exchange that the above statements which were reported by the Business Times were made pursuant to market speculations. Since the evaluation of a prospective foreign telecommunication company for Telekom Malaysia Berhad's ("TM") cellular company, Telekom Cellular Sdn Bhd is still at its preliminary stage, TM is not in a position to make an announcement at this point in time.
An appropriate announcement will be made to the Exchange upon completion of the evaluation and an agreement with the relevant party has been reached.
We refer to the above news article appearing in Business Times, pages 1 & 24,
on Wednesday, 6 December 2000, a copy of which is enclosed for your reference.
