We refer to the letter from the Exchange dated 11 July 2001 on the above news article appearing on Bloomberg, on Wednesday, 11 July 2001, wherein it was stated as follows :-

"...Telekom Malaysia (4863) might be interested in buying Malaysian Resources Corp.'s (1651) 43.5% stake in New Straits Times Press (3999)."

We wish to inform the Exchange that the above statement was not an official statement made by Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and it must have been made pursuant to rumours and market speculations.

Currently, TM is not engaged in any discussion or negotiation with Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad regarding the matter as reported.

In the circumstances, TM is unable to make an announcement as requested by the Exchange.

July 2001, a copy of which is enclosed for your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined sentence
which is reproduced as follows:-
"... Telekom Malaysia (4863) might be interested in buying Malaysian Resources
Corp.'s (1651) 43.5% stake in New Straits Times Press (3999)."
In accordance with the Exchange's Corporate Disclosure Policy, you are
requested to furnish the Exchange with an announcement for public release
confirming or denying the above reported article and in particular the
