The letter dated 13 May 2002 from the Exchange regarding the following news article appearing on The Edge Online, on Monday, 13 May 2002, refers :

"...Telekom would launch a takeover bid if TRI's current board did not agree to a merger."

We wish to inform the Exchange that the above statement is based on market speculation and is not true, as TM has not made a decision on its next course of action if merger talk does not come to fruition.

We refer to the above news article appearing on The Edge Online, on Monday, 13
May 2002, a copy of which is enclosed for your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined sentence,
which is reproduced as follows:-
"... Telekom would launch a takeover bid if TRI's current board did not agree
to a merger."
In accordance with the Exchange's Corporate Disclosure Policy, you are
requested to furnish the Exchange with an announcement for public release
confirming or denying the above reported article and in particular the
