Telekom Malaysia Berhad (Telekom Malaysia) today announced the appointment of two new members to its Board with effect from 1 June 2004 namely Encik Azman Haji Mokhtar, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Khazanah Nasional and YB Datuk Nur Jazlan bin Tan Sri Mohamed, the current Member of Parliament for Pulai, Johor.
With the new appointments, the Board of Directors of Telekom Malaysia shall comprise:

YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Mohd. Munir bin Abdul Majid, the Senior Independent Non- Executive Director and Mr Tan Poh Keat, the Non-Independent Non-Executive Director will tender their resignation from the Board effective from 1 June 2004. However YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Mohd. Munir shall remain the Chairman and Mr Tan Poh Keat, the Director of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad. YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Rahim bin Haji Daud who retires as the Deputy Chief Executive/Executive Director on 30 June 2004, thereafter remains as Non-Executive Director of the Board of Telekom Malaysia. Incoming Director, Encik Azman Haji Mokhtar, who assumes office as Chief Executive Officer of Khazanah Nasional Berhad with effect from 1 June 2004, has had a distinguished career as Director, Head of Country Research, Salomon Smith Barney (SSB) Malaysia (1998 –2000). He co-founded SSB’s entry into Malaysia in May 1998. Prior to that he was Director, Head of Research of the Union Bank of Switzerland, Malaysia. He was a scholar of the then National Electricity Board (NEB) (currently TNB) and served as the Finance Manager of the utility and played an instrumental role in the privatization of NEB into Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
His academic record is par excellence having graduated in Masters of Philosophy with distinction, from Darwin College, Cambridge University as a British Chevening Scholar. Encik Azman is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder of the Association of Investment Management and Research (AIMR). YB Datuk Nur Jazlan bin Tan Sri Mohamed studied accountancy at the Emile Woolf School of Accountancy, London. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, United Kingdom, Council Member and Chairman of Public Relations Committee of Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He is also a Council Member of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants as well as advisor and council member for ACCA Malaysia. In addition to his corporate experience in the financial arena, YB Datuk Nur Jazlan is also active in politics, being an Exco Member of UMNO Youth since 1996 as well as Chairman Barisan Nasional for Pulai, Johor. YB Datuk Nur Jazlan was elected in the last General Election, as Member of Parliament for Pulai parliamentary constituency, Johor.
In welcoming Y Bhg. Dato’ Abdul Wahid Omar, Encik Azman Mokhtar and YB Dato’ Nur Jazlan Mohamad, Chairman, Y Bhg. Tan Sri Ir Md Radzi, on behalf of the Board, said that he looks forward to working closely with the new team for further progress and future growth of the Group.
The Board, at the conclusion of its meeting today took the opportunity to thank the outgoing Directors, namely Y Bhg. Dato’ Dr Mohd Munir Majid and Mr Tan Poh Keat for their invaluable contributions and support during their tenure as Directors of the Company.
The Board also recorded its appreciation to the outgoing Chief Executive, Y Bhg Dato’ Dr Md Khir Abdul Rahman for his valuable service and contributions to the Company.
