We forward herewith a press statement released by Telekom Malaysia Berhad today on the above matter:-

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) wishes to announce that Dato’ Abdul Wahid Omar’s tenure as the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has been extended for another 3-year term with effect from 1 July 2007. Dato’ Abdul Wahid Omar came on board as the Group CEO on 1 July 2004.

Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Muhammad Radzi Haji Mansor, Chairman, TM said, “On behalf of the Board, management and staff at TM, I would like to congratulate Dato’ Abdul Wahid on his mandate to continue leading the Group. This is indeed good news to TM. Dato’ Abdul Wahid has been instrumental in implementing various initiatives crucial to TM’s transformation and growth since he came on board in July 2004. Some of these initiatives include organisational restructuring to ensure streamlined functions and optimal staffing, strengthening TM’s regional footprint with the completion of 2 key investments in the high growth market of Indonesia and India, the re-branding exercise, the launch of 3G services and more recently, the launch of Performance Improvement Program in August 2006 to strengthen TM’s domestic business. The Group has also embarked on a series of programme to increase its efficiency and productivity which includes new working hours, manpower rationalization, centralized procurement, shared service organization (SSO) for human resource, finance, IT and procurement functions. Dato’ Abdul Wahid has also initiated measures to improve executional capacity of our workforce, building TM’s talents and leadership pool, as well as improve performance management.”

“With the extension of his tenure at TM, Dato’ Abdul Wahid can see the full implementation of these initiatives come to fruition. Continuity is important especially now when the telecommunications industry is undergoing rapid changes and stiff competition. In 2004 when Dato’ Abdul Wahid first came on board as the Group CEO, TM was a RM12 billion-revenue company with 61% of contribution from fixed line business. We have now grown into a RM16 billion-revenue company with 52% contribution from domestic and overseas mobile operations. Under his stewardship, I am confident that TM will scale greater heights and make good progress towards becoming one of Asia’s leading communications company.”

Commenting on the extension of his tenure as Group CEO, TM, Dato’ Abdul Wahid Omar said, “It is certainly an honour to be entrusted with the responsibility to continue to lead TM. I wish to thank the Government and the Board of Directors for their confidence in me. I look forward to see the full execution and benefits of the transformation efforts put in place thus far. If I can call the last two and a half years since I took office at TM as the first phase, it was the phase where a lot of efforts had been put into improving TM’s competitive position. We have managed to implement a lot of initiatives that we set out to do and I must say this is only made possible by the support from everyone in the Group. They have shown that they are willing to work hard and contribute towards TM’s transformation. I have mentioned this before and I would like to say it again that a CEO is only as good as his team. Going into my second term at TM, I look forward to working together with everyone at TM to harness the value created from all the initiatives and bring TM to another level of excellence.”
