Encik Zaid Hamzah, 47, has been appointed as the Senior Vice President, Group Regulatory, Legal & Compliance TM effective today.
Zaid has over 21 years of professional work experience spanning government service, legal practice and in-house counsel work with a MNC. Prior to joining TM, Zaid was a consultant to Microsoft’s Legal & Corporate Affairs, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.
He started his career with a stint with the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he spent 9 years as the Senior Assistant Director. His career achievements include his role as a consultant to the Malaysian Government on the development of the Malaysian National Intellectual Property policy in 2003, advising the Malaysian National ICT Security & Emergency Response Centre (NISER) on the development of their E-Security Legal Risk Management Framework and MAMPU on the comercialisation of e-government applications.
A qualified lawyer with a Bachelor of Law from National University of Singapore, Zaid completed his Masters of Arts from Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA on a Fulbright Scholarship.
In addition, he is an author of the legal practitioner’s book entitled “Information Technology Contracts” and the Law & Strategy trilogy “Intellectual Property Law & Strategy”, “Biotechnology Law & Strategy” and “E-Security Law & Strategy". He is also an adjunct teaching staff in several tertiary institutions in Malaysia and Singapore.
VADS Berhad
VADS Berhad, TM’s subsidiary announced the appointment of Encik Fathi Ridzuan Bin Ahmad Fauzi, 42, as its new Chief Financial Officer effective 19 March 2007.
A graduate of Accounting and Financial Analysis from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, Fathi began his career in 1989 with the Malaysian National Reinsurance Berhad as Accounts Executive before joining American International Assurance Company Limited in 1990 as an Assistant Accountant. He then joined the KLSE Group in 1991 as an Accountant with Malaysian Central Depository Sdn Bhd, and was part of the pioneering group that developed and implemented the Central Depository System (CDS). In 1997 he left to assist in the setting up of a new stock exchange, Malaysian Exchange for Securities Dealing and Automated Quotation Berhad (MESDAQ) as the Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration.
Fathi returned to the KLSE Group in 1999 as the Assistant General Manager, Finance and Administration for the clearing house, Securities Clearing Automated Network Services Sdn Bhd (SCANS), before being appointed as the General Manager for MCD in 2002.
Prior to joining VADS, Fathi held several positions at Bursa Malaysia and was last responsible for the development and operations of the three exchanges owned by Bursa Malaysia, namely Bursa Malaysia Securities Sdn Bhd, Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Sdn Bhd and Labuan Financial Exchange Incorporated.
During his tenure in the KLSE Group and Bursa Malaysia, Fathi also held directorships in MCD Nominees Sdn Bhd, KLSE Information Services Sdn Bhd and Labuan Financial Exchange Incorporated. He was also appointed by the Minister of Finance as a member of the Central Depository Advisory Council, by Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority (LOFSA) as a member of the LFX Exchange Committee, and by the Securities Commission as a member of the Licensing and Examination Advisory Panel.
